Miss Piggy Uncovered

“I am not a diva, I am THE diva!” Miss Piggy believed herself and we all did too. But she did not just make statements, she created a movement. Like many of my generation, I grew up with the concept of stardom equated to a pig. Only she was never just quite that. She was a genuine character living her life, dating a famous frog. What made her egocentric persona so lovable and well, real, was her sense of three dimensionality and her trueness to self. Over her years of fame, Miss Piggy has gathered, latched on and shared much wisdom about what’s wrong with everyone else and what’s right with her. It was all about her; “Moi, moi and moi” was personified in how she really stole the spotlight. She was the original It-Girl. Read the rest of this entry »

April 8th, 2009

soundofmusic

Sometimes we all need a break from our routine and what better way to do that than through music, The Sound of Music. This is a fun, light video performance at Central Station Antwerp in Belgium. Watch it and sing along: Do a deer, a female deer…

disney-egg

I saw this ad on TV and well it’s true: Disney are now selling eggs!!! I have no idea what to say here, this just seems too ridiculous. I mean what will be next - tampons or pears?? What the hell, give me a scrambled Goofy and Pluto with cheese.

True Blood Intro

March 23rd, 2009

true blood

I have to say I just love the True Blood series on HBO. Even more than that, the intro to the show is probably the best thing I have seen on TV in ages, if ever! The song (I wanna do bad things with you by Jace Everett), imagery (feels like scenes taken with lomos) and edit are creepy and amazing. I can just watch it over and over again.

This week’s most viewed clip on YouTube is a fun, entertaining and well-crafted show with… sheep! I guess even Welsh farmers can be creative or just have a lot of time on their hands. Watch it below:

Tokyo!

March 23rd, 2009

tokyo!

I watched Tokyo! yesterday, a movie composed of three short films by Michel Gondry, Leos Carax and Bong Joon-ho. All offer mysterious artistic semi-supernatural outsiders’ perceptions of the city: surreal interpretations of a slightly surreal place. A girl turns into a chair. A creature in a green suit climbs out from the sewers and inflicts mayhem and disorder. A man finds love after more than a decade of isolation amidst towering pizza boxes, books and toilet paper rolls.

The Secret Room

March 23rd, 2009

My mom grabbed my hand and explained that it was time to go down to the secret room again. My father followed us closely carrying my younger sister and brother, one child in each arm. We took the stairs from the fourth floor but did not stop on the ground, joining a flock migration of neighbors. Faintly in the background was a random un-orchestrated resonance of bangs accompanied by close-ups of explosions creating a habitual symphony of chaotic sounds that marked my war-torn city. We kept on going down for another two levels until we reached a hallway with a door that led to one room – the secret underground space.

Boxed Water Is Better

March 21st, 2009

boxed_water

It is! Why has no one thought of this before? Cardboard is clearly better than plastic for the environment. We buy juice and milk in cardboard, why not water? For all those who do not feel comfortable with tap water, then this is a more sustainable solution - Boxed water is better!

Were They Really Smoking Nothing?

March 20th, 2009

nothing_amsterdam

Today, anyone will do anything to stand out. Oh and stand out and be “green” is even better. So basically a new agency has opened up in Amsterdam, and its whole office from the cubicles to the ceilings, is built entirely out of cardboard. And they are called Nothing. I just hope they won’t spill coffee on their desks!
